The Department of Education, through school districts, offers the following French Second Language Programs. The aim of each program is to provide opportunities for students to acquire French second language proficiency.
* K-2: all children learn together and are introduced to French culture and language through a series of learning modules integrated into the curriculum and delivered by their homeroom teacher in English;

2012 District 18 Concours d'art Oratoire
The 2012 District 18 Concours d’art Oratoire was held at Bliss Carman Middle School in Fredericton. Fifty seven (57) Middle and High school students took part. Over 150 parents and friends attended this year’s event to support our students while they were doing their oral presentation in French. Oral Proficiency Evaluation - Certification
The Oral Proficiency Evaluation is an assessment of your overall ability to communicate in French or English in both professional and social settings. A Certificate of Proficiency is issued within 10 days of the evaluation and remains valid for a three year period.

French Immersion Registration
Please return one of these forms to your child’s school on or before February 25, 2011. Schools have been asked to date registrations as they receive them. Classes will be organized on the basis of registrations received and late registrations will be placed on a waiting list.
For more information please call your local school or the French Second Language Supervisor for District 18 at 444-2042.
District 18 will endeavor to enroll students in the nearest elementary school offering the Grade 3 French Immersion Program.
