What if I do not have a Teacher’s Certificate? Can I still apply?

Posted in

Applicants who do not have a New Brunswick Teacher's Certificate must become certified in our province prior to being eligible to teach.  Individuals with an Education degree from another province or country must make application for an Interim Certificate through the Department of Education, by contacting:

Teacher Certification
Department of Education
Place 2000, P. O. Box 6000, Fredericton,  NB, E3B 5H1
Telephone: 453-2785

Individuals who do not hold a Bachelors of Education degree can only be considered for regular day to day substitute teaching at a reduced rate of pay with a Local Permit.  Only applicants with a specialty in French or Music; holding an undergraduate degree, or those students who have completed the Bachelor of Education program and are awaiting their Teaching Certification are eligible to submit an application for consideration.  Local Permits are valid for the current school year only and must be renewed annually and an evaluation/reevaluation fee of $20.00 is required in the form of a money order payable to the Minister of Finance, Province of New Brunswick. All Local Permits are approved by the Director of Education and applicants will be notified upon approval.
