The National Art Conference 2011
Fredericton was host to the National Art Conference 2011 held at three venues, the Crowne Plaza, Art Gallery and NB College of Craft and Design. Several teachers, art specialists and District 18 Coordinators attended the Conference. Hermengilde Chaisson providedan inspiring opening address at the Art Gallery. This was followed by an interesting panel discussion, open to participants to discuss the NB art curriculum.
The three day conference offered over 50 workshops on a variety of art-related topics . Two of our art specialists from district 18 offered well-attended workshops. Roberte Melanson, who teaches at Blis Carman had participants involved in a hands-on lesson to make paper mache puppets. Ron Leger, who teaches at LHHS provided particpants an insightful look at painting with acrylics and digital imagery.
The feedback from this conference by participants was very positive. It was wonderful to be able to offer this enriching opportunity to teachers in Fredericton as this National Art Conference had not been held in Fredericton for 17 years.
The Department of Education was instrumental in supporting this event.
